Kenny Chesney had a life-changing moment last year that made him re-evaluate how he was living.
That moment came when his longtime friend Kristi Hanson died of a brain aneurysm at age 35. Kenny tells People Country, "You realize it could all end in a second. And if it all went away just like that, did I do everything I wanted to do, did I say everything I wanted to say?"
Kristi was part of a group of friends Kenny met when he began hanging out in the U.S. Virgin Islands back in the early '90s. "Happy on the Hey Now" -- a song on his Life on the Rock album -- is dedicated to her.
The new issue of People Country, featuring Kenny on the cover, hits newsstands on Friday.
