If you go to a grocery store or a farmer's market, you may be able to look at a squash and know that it is, in fact, a squash.
But sometimes you can look at a display and go...what the hell is THAT supposed to be?
Well in case you didn't know, there are numerous types of squash that come in all shapes, sizes, colors and uses.
To be honest, some look like they came from outer space. So if the alien didn't leave you a "Squash for Dummies" book behind after flying back to wherever galaxy, here's a primer on the fall and winter squash varietals to know about.
I particularly love to roast different kinds of squash. Butternut and acorn are two popular types to do that with. But did you know that you can also steam and microwave squash?
So much like with baked potatoes, why bother doing them the slow way when microwaving them can cut down your cooking time by a lot.
Come up with some inventive ways to utilize the myriad squash available through your local grocery. They're a good healthy fruit (yes, botanically they are fruit) and can add that little extra to any meal.
