Savor the Cookies--but beware of the LIQUID calories while celebrating!

by Christy Taylor

Let’s be honest, the holidays wouldn’t be as much fun without all the goodies! It is the only time of year we’re practically encouraged to splurge a little.

So go ahead and savor those extra calories in cookies and pie—and avoid going too far overboard by cutting back on liquid calories while celebrating!

Did you know, 8 oz of eggnog has almost 350 calories, and 19 grams of fat!? Yeah, crazy. For a healthier option, buy the reduced fat version, or make your own using egg whites.

And a 12 ounce hot chocolate can have the same amount of calories as a Whopper with Cheese from Burger King! A healthy solution would be to shop for sugar free, use skim milk and, yes, skip the marshmallows and whip cream.

A peppermint mocha—even worse! 16 ounces will pack 400 extra calories and 16 grams of fat! Instead, try adding a tablespoon of coffee-mate seasonal flavor peppermint mocha to your cup of joe instead.

How about this, a Pumpkin Spice Latte has 380 calories and 13 grams of fat in just 16 ounces! Really, your best bet here is just to order a smaller size, and sip slowly!

I can’t ask ya to skip on the champagne toast! There’s only 156 calories in an 8 ounce glass, but do enjoy in moderation. The more you drink, the calories will add up, and getting a little tipsy will make you more likely to overindulge in food!
