Winter can wreak havoc on your skin. Mine can get so dry and flaky. I learned how to make my own sugar scrub, and I love it! I use it in the shower and it exfoliates and moisturizes all in one step, saving you time from moisturizing after you get out of the shower. I use organic virgin coconut oil and sugar and essential oils. (Which can be found at your favorite health food store)
There are so many benefits from using coconut oil. It's so good for you! Coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer for skin and hair. It has good amounts of the antioxidant vitamin E, which is very protective. If you are using on the skin regularly, it is best to try to find an organic coconut oil, to reduce the absorption of toxins and pesticides through your skin. I use it to remove my makeup and I like to cook with it too. I use it instead of butter or vegetable oil when making scrambled eggs or omelets. And it's great on biscuits, instead of butter or margarine.
First, find a container to store it in. Here I used an old plastic container that I cleaned out and recycled. Plastic works good for the shower.
Next, fill the container half full of sugar.
Spoon coconut oil into the container until it is full. A 50/50 amount of each.
Stir the sugar and coconut oil together until it is a smooth paste. Now it's time to add the essential oils!
I am using patchouli oil (you either love it or hate it!) I LOVE it! And I'm using tangerine oil. The aroma of it makes you cheerful!
Just add as many drops of the essential oils as you like. It's up to you. It's YOUR signature scent!
You can find essential oils in most health food stores. Some oils can be a bit pricey, but they will last you a long time. You'll be able to make up several batches of this scrub. It's really fun to mix scents.
Mix the oils and sugar thoroughly.
And now you have your own sugar scrub! You can find some decorative containers and make some for gift giving!
Your skin will enjoy how luxurious, smooth and silky it will feel--plus smell wonderful!
