The NBA Draft Lottery

by Joe

As we're finally at the NBA equivalent of the "Final Four" with the Conference Finals, it's that time of year for the awful teams from the previous season to play the lottery. The NBA Draft Lottery is great if you're trying to rebuild your team but if you're there in May one too many times then we start to feel like you're abusing your picks. My favorite team, the Orlando Magic, has the best percentage chance (25%) thanks to finishing dead last in the NBA (hooray! </endsarcasm>). The reason the Magic are back here for the 1st time in 10 years is because the same player they took with the #1 pick in the 2004 NBA draft, Dwight Howard, leaving and going to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The #1 pick can be a blessing and a curse based off of history with the pick. The 1st ever lottery #1 was Patrick Ewing (he turned out pretty well). Meanwhile, there are a bunch of players who stink as well; take the 2001 NBA Draft for example. Michael Jordan, then in charge of the Washington Wizards, selected Kwame Brown as the #1 overall pick. Brown has since played for multiple teams and has a career average of under 10 PPG and 10 RPG. Check the rest of the list out here

The ceremony for the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery will be tomorrow before Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and the San Antonio Spurs at 8:25pm EDT on ESPN. Who do you think is going to get the #1 overall pick and who do you see them drafting with it?
