SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for lifeguards at city pools this summer.
Recreation Program Director Jean Pearson says lifeguards must be certified through the American Red Cross with classes available at the YWCA or YMCA.
Pearson says a new lifeguard's pay is $10.25 an hour and a lifeguard that can teach swimming lessons will get $10.75 an hour. She says lifeguards work when everyone else wants to play and pools are open only one-hundred and one days, every day of the week. She says staff that want every weekend off can't expect that schedule.
Pearson says applications are available at the Parks and Rec website or at the main office at 6th and Main. She says lifeguards are typically ages 16 on up to college age.
Sioux Falls city pools are scheduled to open Friday, May 24th.
