SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) - City and contractor crews are expanding efforts to pick up branches in central Sioux Falls today. Crews began work on portions of Western Avenue and 33rd Street yesterday. Clean up areas will focus on emergency and secondary snow routes. To help support these efforts, City Officials are asking citizens to move vehicles parked along the emergency and secondary snow routes in the work area.

The expanded area is bounded by Russell Street on the north, 33rd Street on the south, Kiwanis Avenue on the west, and Interstate 229 on the east. Short term road closures are being used to allow crews to work efficiently and safely. Roads will be closed in three (3) to six (6) block segments along the routes for short periods of time and will re-open as work is completed.

Crews will work in this area between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. today and tomorrow. These initial efforts continue to focus on safe traveling conditions on arterial and collector streets. After this initial pick-up, there will be additional pick-up efforts planned for these areas.

People clearing branches on their property can stack downed branches and trees in the public right of way, between the curb and sidewalk. To help us help you, if you can safely remove your fallen branches, the City encourages you to take them to either of the two free branch drop-off sites. The drop-off sites are located at either the Street Department (1000 East Chambers Street) or the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds (North Lyons Boulevard). Drop-off sites remain open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
