BURNSVILLE, MN (KWSN) - Augustana volleyball was picked to finish fifth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference by to the league coaches in a release by the NSIC on Thursday morning. Holly Hafemeyer was listed by the conference as a player to watch for the Vikings in the 2013 season.
For the 10th consecutive season, Concordia-St. Paul was tabbed as the top team according to the coaches. The Golden Bears earned all possible first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) to amass 225 points. Augustana gathered 156 points, placing them fifth. Hafemeyer returns for her senior season after being named the seventh AVCA All-American in Augustana volleyball program history one season ago.
The middle blocker led the Vikings with 362 kills (3.51/set), 92 total blocks (0.98 per set), and a .312 attack percentage. The Faribault, Minn. native tallied double-digit kills in 21 matches last season, including nine matches with at least 15. Hafemeyer's season-highs included a 22-kill performance against Wayne State and a thrashing of U-Mary in which she finished with 11 error-free kills on 16 attempts for a .688 attack percentage.
The Vikings are scheduled to open fall camp on August 18 to prepare for the Spring Hill Suites Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska beginning on Sept. 6.
Augustana opens their 22-game NSIC schedule with Southwest Minnesota State on Sept. 19 at the Elmen Center.
