Everyone in the Nashville music community is so happy for the recent birth of Hillary Scott 's new baby, but she may want to reign in her Lady Antebellum band mates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood as soon as possible. Charles and Dave took the stage at Nashville's 3rd & Lindsley Tuesday night dressed in dreadful '80s garb for a set of classic rock and soul covers.
Charles billed himself as "Dick Fantastic" for the sellout crowd, but his vocals were absolutely spot-on during the 90-minute shot. Opening with a brave cover of Prince 's "When Doves Cry," Charles and Dave led Lady A's band through a diverse set ranging from Montell Jordan 's "This Is How We Do It" to Michael Bolton 's blue-eyed-soul jam "Soul Provider."
Performances of Ginuwine 's "Pony" and Marvin Gaye 's "Let's Get it On" provided a few of the night's sexier moments, but Charles' delivery of Phil Collins ' moody "In the Air Tonight" got the crowd to their feet for genuine applause.
Lionel Richie , Toto and Traffic classics rounded out the set. Lady Antebellum gets back to singing their own hits November 8 with the launch of the Take Me Downtown tour in Southaven, MS. Kip Moore and Kacey Musgraves join them on the bill.
