BROOKINGS, SD (KWSN) — South Dakota State University right-hander Chad Hodges was named Horizon Air Summer Series Pitcher of the Year during the recently completed collegiate summer league season.
Pitching for the Humboldt (Calif.) Crabs, Hodges compiled a 7-0 record with a 2.46 earned run average in helping the team win its third consecutive Far West League Championship. He struck out 55 batters and walked only 18 in 62 innings pitched.
Hodges pitched primarily out of the bullpen for South Dakota State during the 2013 campaign, posting a 3-2 record with a 4.76 ERA in 16 appearances, including two starts, as the Jackrabbits went on to win the Summit League tournament championship and made their inaugural appearance in the NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.
College teammate Eric Danforth, an outfielder for the Walnut Creek Crawdads, was an honorable mention selection to the all-Horizon Air Summer Series Team. The outfielder from Watertown batted .302 with two home runs and 20 runs batted in, adding 12 stolen bases in 35 games.
