VERMILLION, S.D. (KWSN) —South Dakota shot 57 percent from the field, made 13 three-pointers and had eight players score in double figures in a 112-85 win against Graceland in the Coyotes’ home opener Saturday inside the DakotaDome.

Junior Tavian Pomlee came off the bench to lead South Dakota with 16 points. Junior Brandon Bos had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore point guard Trey Norris had 11 points and a season-high nine assists.

The Coyotes (2-3) made nine three-pointers and 22 of 35 field goals (62 percent) in the second half to pull away from Graceland (6-3), an NAIA program from Lamoni, Iowa. Sophomore Casey Kasperbauer made four second-half three’s and finished with 12 points.

Austin Danner and Jamal Lawson scored 17 points each to lead Graceland, which made eight 3-pointers in the first half and trailed 54-53 at halftime. Drew Emmert scored 12 points and Austin Halls added 10.

South Dakota went on a 25-2 run to take a 92-69 lead with nine minutes to go. Kasperbauer and Pomlee combined to score 19 points during the rally. Graceland went 3 of 23 from the field in the final 15 minutes of the game after starting out 23 of 45 (51 percent).

All five USD starters reached double figures. No starter logged more than 27 minutes. The Coyotes enjoyed a 52-28 advantage on the boards and outscored Graceland 21-2 in transition.

South Dakota has won seven consecutive home openers. The Coyotes return to the court Monday to host Utah Valley in a 7 p.m. tip.
