SPEARFISH, S.D. (KWSN)- Black Hills State's 14-0 run in the second half distanced themselves from Augustana as the Vikings were handed an 83-67 loss on Saturday evening. The Vikings fall to 3-3 while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-1 on the year.Nearing the 10-minute mark of the second half, Riley Ryan reeled off seven points and led Black Hills State on a 14-0 run after Augustana pulled even with the Yellow Jackets at 49-49. Behind hot three-point shooting from BHSU -- the home team hit nine threes -- the Vikings couldn't erase another double-digit deficit.Myles Henry counteracted Casey Schilling's first-half offensive output with a near-personal 9-0 run with just five minutes left in the opening half. Schilling led the Vikings with 21 points which included his 12 first-half points, but Henry's buzzer-beating three gave BHSU a four-point lead and momentum entering intermission.Augustana held a 28-21 lead with just over five minutes left in the first half before Henry led the Yellow Jackets on a 9-0 run that was stopped by one of Ethan Guske's three 3-point field goals. Schilling drew the Vikings within one before Henry's 24-foot jumper counted before the buzzer sounded.More three-point field goals stretched the BHSU lead to 12 before Schilling and Daniel Jansen fought back for Augustana. In a three-minute span, Schilling scored seven points and assisted on two Jansen field goals to tie the score at 49-49 before Black Hills State opened up their game-clinching 14-0 run.Ryan's 17 points led Black Hills State as he and Joey Mitchell combined for seven of the Yellow Jackets' nine three-point field goals. Matthew Brazendale was the fourth Viking to finish with double digits in scoring as he and Guske finished with 13 apiece. Jansen had 12 points, including eight in the second half.Tale of the tapeFouls and free throws: Augustana was held without a free throw attempt in the first half and BHSU shot six in the opening half. Augustana was whistled for 10 fouls in the first half compared to BHSU's three. In the game, the Vikings were called for 25 fouls and Black Hills State shot 23 free throws as opposed to Augustana's 12.Schilling out the points: Sophomore Casey Schilling hit the 20-point mark for the third time this season. In all games this season, Schilling has shot over .500 from the field.Second chances, not enough: Augustana outrebounded Black Hills State 37-30 including 18 offensive rebounds. On those 18 offensive rebounds, the Vikings scored 14 second chance points.Missing bench: Augustana's bench scored just six points. Devin Gilligan had four and Adam Beyer contributed two. Augustana's starters scored 91 percent of their points. Black Hills State's non-starters combined for 21 points.
