Governor Makes Appointments To Transportation Commission

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO-AM) – Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed Tim Dougherty of Sioux Falls and Larry Thompson of Mitchell to the South Dakota Transportation Commission.

“I want to thank Mr. Dougherty and Mr. Thompson for agreeing to serve on the Transportation Commission,” Gov. Daugaard said. “I’m sure their experience and insight will prove invaluable when considering highway and other important transportation issues in South Dakota.”

Dougherty is a partner at the Dougherty & Dougherty, LLP law firm and has practiced law since 1984. He also serves on the Governor’s Commission on Child Support. Dougherty is replacing Mike McDowell who retired earlier this year.

Thompson is CEO of Vantage Point Solutions, a telecommunications engineering and consulting company, and he serves as president of the Mitchell Christian School Board.  Thompson replaces Kevin Schieffer who resigned after being appointed to the Board of Regents.

The nine members of the Transportation Commission serve four-year terms. The vacat term Thompson fills will expire in April of 2016. Dougherty’s term will expire April of 2014.
