Carrie Underwood took on the role of Maria von Trapp in NBC's live production of The Sound of Music in December. Despite receiving mixed reviews from viewers and critics, Carrie's name power helped attract more than 18 million viewers to the broadcast. The DVD of the concert hits stores December 17, just in time for Christmas.
Despite her hectic rehearsal schedule for The Sound of Music Live! , Carrie still found time to co-host the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley in November for a sixth consecutive year. She wrapped up her Blown Away tour in May after playing to more than a million fans in the U.S., England, Ireland, Australia and Canada. Carrie capped off the trek with an exhibit of tour memorabilia at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and the release of a concert DVD in August.
In light of the deadly tornadoes that struck her home state of Oklahoma in May, Carrie donated $1 million of the Blown Away tour's proceeds to the relief effort there. She also made an appearance via satellite at Toby Keith 's tornado relief concert in Oklahoma City in July. That event raised an additional $2 million for the storm's victims.
Carrie had several other high-profile appearances in 2013, including performance slots on the Grammy and Emmy Awards. She also took over Faith Hill's gig singing NBC's Sunday Night Football theme, and won Video of the Year at June's CMT Music Awards for her "Blown Away" clip.
