SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota State Extension is offering a class Tuesday, February 19, on food safety and processing for farmer's markets. Community Development Field Specialist Chris Zdorovtsov says the class is geared for people who process food at home that's allowed at farmer's markets. Zdorovtsov says the class covers procedures and Extension certifications. She says producers are getting into niche products such as jams, jellies, pickles, breads, honey and chocolate at farmer's markets. Zdorovtso says the class is February 19th at one at the SDSU Regional Extension Center on the School for the Deaf Campus on East 8th Street. Applications are available at I-grow-dot-org. A class on starting a commercially licensed kitchen will be held Tuesday, February 26th at the Regional Extension Center.
