VERMILLION, S.D. (KWSN)– South Dakota head volleyball coach Matt Houk has named Michael Runde as USD volleyball’s graduate assistant starting this fall.
Runde spent the last four years as the head coach for the Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club in Iowa City, Iowa, and led the club to qualify for the USA Volleyball National Championships three times. He was also a manager for the University of Iowa volleyball team the past two seasons and has assisted with camps at Iowa, Northern Iowa and Northwestern.
"I am excited to get Michael here and working with our players,” Houk said. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge that he has learned during his time at Iowa and the Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club. He is young and motivated, and the energy he will infuse into our program will be priceless."
Runde, a native of Dubuque, Iowa, graduated from Iowa in 2013 with a degree in Sports and Recreation Business.
“After touring campus and meeting Coach Houk, USD seems like a great place to start my coaching career,” Runde said. “Coach Houk and Coach (Leanne) Felsing have done a great job getting the team going in the right direction and I’m excited to be a part of the staff.”
Runde will start his duties when practices begin in August.
