SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Minnehaha County is using federal funds for an embalming-autopsy truck in case of a disaster with mass fatalities.
Emergency Management Director Lynn DeYoung says Pennington County has a refrigeration truck that can store bodies prior to autopsy and embalming.
DeYoung says the two units will respond to any major disasters statewide. He says death and disastor are part of his job and it falls on the county, by state directive, to be prepared for the worst. He says if the county doesn't prepare for disaster, and it happens, residents are going to want to know why commissioners opposed the plan.
DeYoung says training in the truck should begin in November.
He says the federal funding is $50,000.
