SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - An effort to encourage Sioux Falls residents to check their blood pressure kicked off Wednesday with a month long effort called "The Big Squeeze."
City Health Director Jill Franken says one in three adults has high blood pressure.
Franken says during last year's campaign over 5,300 Sioux Falls residents checked their blood pressure. She says they hope to screen 7,500 residents during April.
Franken says the campaign also encourages those with high blood pressure to follow up with their doctor and encourages health providers to manage their patient's high blood pressure aggressively.
Franken says various locations are offering blood pressure checks including Lewis Drugs, Walgreens, HyVee, Sioux Falls fire stations and several area churches. A complete listing is available at heart.org/thebigsqueeze.
