Sioux Falls, S.D. (KWSN) – The Sioux Falls Skyforce named Octavio De La Grana and Sean Rooks as assistant coaches and Justin Van Kooten as director of basketball operations, it was announced today by general manager, basketball operations Adam Simon.

De La Grana joined the Miami HEAT organization before the 2006-07 season and served as player development coach/advance scout for the HEAT the past five seasons. Prior to joining the HEAT, De La Grana had a combined 18 years of head coaching experience at the high school level, including two stints at Florida Christian High School, where he led his team to the Class 2A State Championship in 1996, a season in which he garnered Coach of the Year honors. He also spent eight years as head coach of Westminster Christian High School’s basketball team.

Rooks returns to the Skyforce after previously serving as assistant coach for the final 16 games of the 2011-12 season. He served as an assistant coach for the New Mexico Thunderbirds (2010-11) and Bakersfield Jam (2007-08) and briefly served as interim head coach of the Jam following the resignation of head coach Jim Harrick. The former NBA player also worked in other capacities for the Jam as he was a television analyst at home games for two seasons and held the role of team mentor during the 2006-07 season.

Van Kooten returns for his second season after serving as basketball operations assistant last season. He served as head and assistant coach for the Southwest Minnesota Stars AAU basketball program and also assisted with the Roosevelt High School basketball program in the summers of 2011 and 2012. He was an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Baltic High School during the 2011-12 season. A four-year member of the basketball team at Dordt College, Van Kooten is also a part-time basketball specialist at Sanford POWER TIBBS Basketball Academy.

Season tickets for the 2013-14 season are on sale. The Skyforce will play home games at the brand-new Sanford Pentagon (sanfordpentagon.com) following 24 seasons at the Sioux Falls Arena. For more information, please contact a Skyforce representative at (605) 332-0605.
