BROOKINGS, S.D. (KWSN) — Future schedules for the South Dakota State University football team are filling up fast.

A full slate of games for the 2015 season has been finalized, while the program is looking to fill one date each for 2014 and 2016. The Jackrabbits have filled their annual contest against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent for each of the next three seasons, starting with an agreement to open the 2014 campaign at Missouri. The 2015 season will kick off at Kansas, with the 2016 season opener scheduled at Texas Christian. The Sept. 3, 2016, game in Fort Worth, Texas, fulfills a contract originally negotiated with the University of Minnesota that was later transferred to TCU.

The non-conference portion of the 2014 schedule also includes games against a pair of former Great West Football Conference foes and current members of the Big Sky Conference. SDSU will open the home slate Sept. 6 against Cal Poly, before traveling the next weekend to Southern Utah for the start of a home-and-home series. The Jackrabbits are in search of a sixth home game on either Sept. 20 or 27 to complete the 12-game schedule.

“I am excited about the additions to our future schedules,” head coach John Stiegelmeier said. “We have the renewal of some old rivalries and the addition of some new challenges. We look forward to each.”

Eleven-game regular season slates are scheduled for both 2015 and 2016. A six-game home schedule for 2015 already has been secured as the Jackrabbits are scheduled to host both Southern Utah and Robert Morris (Pa.) in non-conference action.

The 2016 season could be the first in a new home stadium for the Jackrabbits, after university officials formally announced constructionplans last week upon receiving $12.5 million in lead gifts from Sioux Fallsbanker Dana Dykhouse and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford. SDSU will again seek to play a six-game home schedule in 2016 as Cal Poly is scheduled to return for a Sept. 17 game, with another home game to be played Sept. 10 or 24.

Missouri Valley Football Conference members will continue to play an eight-game league schedule. The Jackrabbits will not play Southern Illinois during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, while Indiana State is off the schedule for a two-year period starting in 2016.

Assignments for Hobo Day, Beef Bowl and other special events will be made at a later date.
