Debate Season Begins at Dakotafest

Near Mitchell, SD (KELO AM) - The unofficial start of the debate season is here, as IdeaAg Dakotafest opened today at the Schlaffman Farm near Mitchell. The state’s largest farm and ranch show provides an ideal backdrop for candidates to connect with the state’s largest industry.

Tuesday’s agenda featured the two major candidates for South Dakota’s lone seat in the House of Representatives – incumbent Republican Krsit Noem and her Democratic challenger Corinna Robinson. As expected both candidates had differing opinions on just about everything, including the federal health care overhaul. Noem said Obamacare is deeply flawed, while Robinson thinks the law needs to stay on the books.

Wednesday will bring debates in the U-S Senate and Governor’s races. Senator John Thune, whose seat is not up for election this year, will also attend the show Wednesday.
