Vermillion, SD (KELO-AM) The University of South Dakota is the first school in the state to own a drone.
The little five pound flyer soars above campus taking pictures and video for marketing purposes. USD says it may be used inside the Dakota Dome. The drone cost USD about $1,300.
The white drone can reach 33 mph with it's four propellers and has a high definition camera attached. USD's Tena Haraldson says they just view it has another way to get photos - they dont see it has going somewhere they couldn't go on the ground.
The legality of drone use by civilian organizations is still in flux as the technology speeds ahead of laws designed to regulate it.
