SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A blue ribbon panel has been named to look into pheasant habitat in South Dakota and former state representative Jan Nicolay, from Chester, is a member.
Nicolay says it’s not only bird numbers that are down. She says many South Dakota hunters have stopped hunting pheasant and says access to land is part of the problem. She says it's impportant to maintain that long-time, family hunting tradition. At the same time, she says, the group has to weigh the interests of the out-of-state hunters and landowners.
Nicolay says the thirteen member group will start meeting next month.
It will deliver recommendations to the Governor late next summer.
