Sioux Falls rolling out new traffic control

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Technology that detects traffic flow, so drivers have fewer and shorter stops, will be activated next week on East 26th Street.

Sioux Falls Public Works Director Mark Cotter says the adaptive traffic control will change signals according to traffic demand.  Cotter says delays will be less, motorists will save fuel and a lot less emissions will be released.  But ultimately, Cotter says, it's a matter of quality of life of trying to get from point A to point B as effeciently as possible.

Cotter says the system, that uses cameras, could be turned on as early as next Tuesday.

He says the cost to control traffic on 26th Street between Van Eps and Highline Avenues is over three-hundred thousand dollars.
