Pierre, SD (KELO-AM) State Representative Susan Wismer of Britton did something on Tuesday she says she never thought she would do. She announced she is a candidate in the South Dakota governor's race. The other Democrat running is former State Wildfire Director, Joe Lowe.
Wismer says folks who know her know she's a 'shy girl' and it was a big step just to run for the legislature, but she believes she can make a difference and gives South Dakotans a choice.
Wismer says she is a moderate Democrat, typical of the centrist politics in northeastern South Dakota. She says Republican Governor Dennis Daugaard has not done enough for education and health care.
The 58-year-old Wismer has been in the Legislature since 2009. She operates a tax and bookkeeping business with her sister.
