SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Results from the recently released South Dakota Kids Count factbook are mixed.
Project director Carole Cochran says rates for low birth weight, teen violent deaths and births to single teens decreased. But she says the rates for infant mrtality and child deaths were disappointing.
Cochran says Kids Count is a five-year picture of health, education, economic and safety indicators.
The factbook estimates South Dakota’s population under the age of twenty as over 228,000 in 2012.
South Dakota’s entire population then was estimated at over 833,354.
