Washington, DC (KELO AM) — U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Robert McDonald to be Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Senator Johnson met with McDonald prior to his confirmation to review the issues facing veterans in South Dakota and throughout the country.
“I congratulate McDonald on his confirmation, and look forward to working with him during this critical time for the VA, and South Dakota and America’s veterans. His solid military credentials and corporate executive experience are the right mix to address the challenges facing the VA, especially the patient care access and claims backlog situations. The passage of the bipartisan VA legislation this week will provide additional tools to help McDonald with the tough job of implementing needed reforms at the VA to provide timely, quality health care for our nation’s veterans.”
