BROOKINGS, SD (KWSN) —South Dakota State’s Hudson Carpenter (Stillwater, Minn.) was named The Summit League Men’s Golfer of the Year Wednesday following a vote of the head coaches.

The senior finished the season ranked first in the league with a 72.77 stroke average after 31 rounds. Carpenter had two first-place finishes this season, winning the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational and the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate, and placed in the top 10 in 6 of 11 events.

At The Summit League Championship, Carpenter placed in a three-way tie for seventh, shooting a 227 (75-73-79) and helped the Jackrabbits finish third.

The three-time first-team all-league selection is the second Jackrabbit to be honored as The Summit League Golfer of the Year. Former Jack Trent Peterson won the award in 2009.

Other Summit League honors annouced on Thursday include Newcomer of the Year, which went to Denver’s Pat Frodigh. Denver head coach Eric Hoos earned the Coach of the Year accolades for guiding his squad to the Summit League championship and a 10th place finish at the NCAA regionals, which is the highest a Summit League club has ever placed in that event.
