A dust storm is being blamed for a nine vehicle accident near New Underwood that shut down eastbound I-90 for a while last night and this morning.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. Friday night when the wind driven dust dropped visibility to near zero along the interstate.
The Rapid City Journal reports that two semis and seven other vehicles were involved near mile marker 75. Several people were transported to nearby hospitals, but no fatalities were reported at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol kept the eastbound lane closed while investigating the accident.
