Sioux Falls, SD (KWSN) - Storm QB Chris Dixon and LB Tyler Knight were named the 2014 IFL Offensive and Defensive players of the year today during the United Bowl press conference this afternoon.
It’s the second consecutive year that Knight has been named the defensive player of the year, Knight was a key cog to the #1 defense in the league, averaging over 10 tackles per game while picking up 8.5 sacks and 1 interception on the season. Knight was also named IFL Defensive player of the week 3 times.
Dixon’s numbers were equally as impressive, after spending one year in the Arena Football League, he returned to the Storm to engineer an offense that ranked at the top of the league in yards per game and points per game. Individually, Dixon racked up 2,237 passing yards and 50 touchdowns passing, while rushing for 408 yards and 17 TD’s as well.
Other individual awards were given to Colorado Ice QB Willie Copeland (Player of the Year), and head coach Heron O’Neal (Coach of the Year). Nebraska’s Charlie Bosselman was named Executive of the Year. Cedar Rapids K Rockne Belmonte picked up special teams Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year was given to Green Bay QB Nathan Wara.
