NEW ORLEANS, LA (KWSN) – The University of Sioux Falls men's cross country/track & field program has been ranked 11th in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Program of the Year Standings. The Cougar men recorded a total program of the year score of 85 and was one of just two NSIC schools to be ranked in the top sixteen.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding cross country/track & field programs in each of the NCAA’s three divisions for each gender.

In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships.  Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

The Cougars ranking came after finishing 18th at the Cross Country Championships, 25th at the Indoor Track and Field Championships and 36th at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Adams State claimed the Damon Martin Program of the Year Award for the sixth straight year after having a season where they won the Cross Country Championships and claimed runner-up honors at the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The USF men's cross country/track & field program had a successful 2013-14 season, claiming five All-American honors in their second year of competing at the NCAA Division II level.
