SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota House Speaker Steve Haugaard of Sioux Falls has had a rough couple of weeks battling COVID-19.
“I never had anything this devastating in my life. Fevers that were consistently somewhere around 100, and spiked to 105.”
Haugaard talked on KELO Radio’s It’s Your Business Show with Bill Zortman about his experience with the disease.
“It’s quite a thing. I’ve got plenty of friends that I haven’t seen for a long time, but I understand have likewise been affected. So, it’s nothing to mess with.”
Haugaard says he had to go to the emergency room a couple of times.
Lawmakers briefly returned to Pierre earlier this month for a special session of the State Legislature to deal with COVID issues, but Haugaard says he has no idea where he picked up the coronavirus.
He is the second state lawmaker, we are aware of, that had the disease. State Represenative Bob Glanzer of Huron died from the virus.
