SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Allegations of back-room deals by the state republican party. Minnehaha County’s delegates to the Republican National Convention were elected at a recent meeting, but state party officials have rejected the candidates and replaced them. Initially, State GOP Chair John Wiik said the replacement was because the election was held outside of the county seat. Minnehaha County GOP Chair Shawn Tornow says the meeting place – Grace Baptist Church near Renner – has a Sioux Falls mailing address. He also says the requirement was ignored in three other counties.
Heidi Small received more votes than any of the other Minnehaha County Delegates elected in the gathering. When she contacted Chairman Wiik he told her she was replaced because he didn’t know her.
Small and the Minnehaha County party are left with no options. The state party will finalize the slate of convention delegates late Wednesday.
