Over the weekend (1/19) my wife and I watched a movie called Phantom Thread from 2017. It was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville. The story is about a dress maker in England mid 1900s, who falls in love, and the struggles that ensue from a highly successful dress maker a model seamstress. This movie is for the art-house lovers of film. It’s very beautiful. The cinematography, the acting, and the music are all absolutely beautiful, but I don’t think I’d recommend this to the average movie goer. This movie is beautiful, and the music is captivatingly beautiful. If you’re already a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson’s films, a fan of Daniel Day-Lewis, love artsy movies about England, or love classical music, you’ll probably love this film. Otherwise, it might be one to pass on. Dakota watched this with me for her second time and she said this about the movie: “I thought it was absolutely beautiful. First time I watched it, I was confused, but I understood it this watch. The music is absolutely beautiful and ties everything together. I’d recommend if you’re into artsy films.”
I give this one 3 1/2 out of 5 stars
