I watched (on 1/23) David Lynch’s first movie titled Eraserhead. It released in 1977 and is filmed in black and white. It’s such a weird movie. When they say David Lynch is “Hollywoods Weirdo” they’re not kidding. Very “Lynchian” from the very beginning. The story is about a man who discovers his girlfriend is pregnant, and he’s dealing with the fears and unknown of being a new parent. It’s very weird, and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Some of the images in the movie could be considered “gross,” so my wife did not watch this one with me. If you’re able to seperate your personal life from the art of this movie, you might enjoy it. If you’re the kind of person who projects your own life or experiences into film and media, it might not be a good match for you to watch. I think this movie is absolutely brilliant in capturing the horrors and fear of becoming a new parent, and not knowing what to expect next. It’s weird, it’s slow, it’s artistic. It’s a very important movie in film history.
I give this movie 4 1/2 stars out of 5
