Last night (1/29) my wife and I watched David Lynch’s third movie – DUNE. Starring Kyle MacLachlan (in his film debut), Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, José Ferrer, Sean Young, Silvana Mangano, Sting, Linda Hunt, and Max von Sydow. It’s an adaption from the book, and it’s.. fine. The story is slow, and the ending feels very rushed. Everything seems to be leading up to a single point, and it all falls flat. But the set design is good, the acting is great, and the effects are cool! In a world of Star Wars & Star Trek, David Lynch said, “how about Dune?” Overall, it feels like Lynch made the movie so he could get funding for his next movie. I haven’t read the book, and I think if I had, I would be more upset with the movie than I already was. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to people unless you’re a die hard David Lynch or Dune fan. I would recommend the NEW version of Dune with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. That’s a great one! Definitely watch that one. Not only was this my first time watching the movie, but it was also my wife Dakota’s first time and this is what she said about the movie: “THe movie is interesting, the idea of it too. I might’ve enjoyed it more if I read the book before watching the movie, but the book is extremely long and I don’t have the time to read that much. In context, it might be good, but I feel very neutral about it. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t like it either. I don’t know if I would recommend it to people.”
I give this one 3 out of 5 stars
