Last night (1/30) my wife and I watched the David Lynch movie Blue Velvet from 1986. The movie stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern. This is the first movie in David Lynch’s filmography that FEELS like a David Lynch movie! It’s great! The story is about a guy who finds a human ear in a field, then his curiosity gets the best of him and he’s mixed up with people he absolutely shouldn’t be with. I heard somewhere (and I could be wrong about this) that David Lynch was originally going to use this as the pilot for his show Twin Peaks, but the direction of the movie went in a different direction, so he made it his own thing, and there are a lot of parallels to Twin Peaks in this movie! It’s a great watch, very intense, and a great mystery that unfolds. My wife Dakota watched this for her first time yesterday and said this about the movie: “This is a fantastic movie, I was iffy about it at first becaue of some details I heard about. But I LOVED it! It’s very good. If you go along for the ride, everything gets answered by the end. If you’re okay with high anxiety during a movie, I’d recommend it.”
I give this one 4 1/2 out of 5 stars
