Last night (2/9) my wife Dakota and I watched another David Lynch movie (shocker at this point right? We’re going through all his films) called LOST HIGHWAY. This movie is where I really truly feel like David Lynch began his full creative process and just did whatever the heck he wanted to do. It was very dark. A lot of elements of horror throughout the movie, yet it’s dreamy. But like a bad dream? Not a nightmare, and when those credits hit, you wake up in a sweat. It’s about a guy and his wife getting mailed VHS tapes of themselves, leading up to his incarceration. But while there, another person takes his place? It’s a very strange movie, and somewhat convoluted. When watching the movie, instead of a linear story, it almost acts as if it loops around and around, while telling it’s narrative. It’s very well done, and I already want to rewatch it. My wife Dakota said, “this movie stressed me out. A lot of creepy imagery, a lot of scenes kept me on edge, and I’m not really sure I understood the whole thing. The best way I’d describe this movie is ‘liminal’ and ‘anxious.’ I don’t know if I would recommend this to general audiences, unless you like confusing movies that you can pick apart.”
I give this one 3 ½ stars out of 5
