Last night my wife and I watched Ghost Rider (2007). Now this was before the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched (in 2008 with Iron Man), so it’s one of the independently standing Marvel hero films of the 00’s. The movie was directed by Mark Steven Johnson who previously did the first Daredevil movie from 2003. It stars Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider who’s trying to get the girl (Eva Mendes). The film also has Wes Bentley, and Sam Elliott. Stuntman Johnny Blaze sells his soul to save his father, and now he has to deal with this curse of the Ghost Rider, going around and defeating demons to save humanity. Ghost Rider is such a cool character, and I’m not sure why Marvel doesn’t use him more! He’s SO COOL! Can’t wait for him to be a part of the MCU in the future. While the movie studios were still trying to figure out how super hero movies should be, this movie is full of cheesy sequences, 00s CGI, and okay-ish acting. But the overall movie is really cool.
I give this movie 3 stars out of 5 – You can see what I’m currently watching by following me on Letterboxd @ roberthawk
