PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Rhoden calls the 100th session of the South Dakota legislature an historic success. Historic because it is the 100th session, and included the first time the chief executive was replaced during a session, when he assumed the Governor’s office upon the resignation of Kristi Noem in January. As always, there were disappointments and successes. Governor Rhoden says the Legislature presented a balanced budget for the 136th consecutive time, and began the process of providing property tax relief for property owners.
The main issue of disappointment for the Governor was the failure to reach agreement on funding and building a new men’s penitentiary. The Legislature will return to Pierre for a special session this summer to resolve that issue.
