PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.COM) – County auditors are preparing for absentee voting beginning on Friday in South Dakota.
Lincoln and Brown County auditors Sheri Lund and Lynn Heupel say they have hired temp employees to help with absentee voting, and they want voters to make sure they bring IDs with them if they are voting in person.
The ID aspect is part of a new state law that requires newly registered voters to provide proof of citizenship.
The law is still going through the litigation process, but for now, passports, birth certificates and driver’s licenses issued after July 1st, 2025, are all qualifying documents.
Lund and Heupel are both running unopposed to retain their positions.
