SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Here are some of the top topics from Monday’s Sioux Falls Police briefing.
‘FISHING’ FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
Three Des Moines, Iowa men, find themselves in jail for stealing catalytic converters.
Late Saturday afternoon, someone called Game, Fish, and Parks because they thought they saw people fishing illegally at the Big Sioux River at the bottom of the hill on North Cliff Avenue.
When GF&P arrived, they discovered the men had a bag full of not fish but catalytic converters and a saw.
Authorities believe they stole the converters from a salvage yard up the hill on Cliff.
GF&P called the Sioux Falls Police, who arrested them.
They are charged with burglary and theft.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT!
Sioux Falls Police say live security footage helped the business owner and then nail a suspected burglar late Saturday night.
The owner of a business in the 5000 block of South Western Avenue installed a security camera after some recent break-ins and thefts.
The owner monitored the cameras, which indicated someone had broken in.
Police responded and arrested Jason Troy Eagle Feather, 42, from Sioux Falls.
He was hiding in a closet when police arrived.
Eagle Feather is charged with burglary and other charges.
SIOUX FALLS DRIVERS HANDLE THE SNOW!
Sioux Falls drivers did a good job avoiding accidents in the Monday morning commute after the heavy snow.
Sioux Falls Police report only nine accidents from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
They say that’s about normal for that time of day.
SNOWY STOPLIGHTS
One of the hallmarks of the recent snow was that it covered the stoplights at a number of busy intersections in Sioux Falls Monday morning.
Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says if the lights are covered, treat it as a four-way stop.
The National Weather Service says Sioux Falls received just over six inches of snow.
