Last night (6/4) I watched Hateful Eight (2015) with my wife Dakota and this was the first Tarantino movie we watched together in the theaters. In our early years of dating, we bonded over our love for Quentin Tarantino’s movies, and we were both so excited for this movie. We saw it the day it released, and fell in love instantly. A western set in the middle of winter? Fantastic! This movie stars Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demián Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks & Channing Tatum. It’s such a great cast that absorbs you the moment the movie starts. It’s a western. A Winter western! It’s really awesome. A couple bounty hunters are trying to outrun a snowstorm, and have to find shelter where other people are staying, and chaos ensues! It’s a Tarantino movie so there’s a lot of conversations, lots of blood, violence, and it takes a while. OH – but if you’re into the art of film, it’s amazing to note that THIS is only the 11th film in cinema history to be shot with 70mm UltraPanavision cameras! It LOOKS outstanding and beautiful and deserves to be seen in a theater! If you ever get that chance, take it! I highly recommend this movie. Maybe it’s because I have so many amazing memories loving and watching this movie with my wife, or maybe I genuinely think it’s a fun and well done movie. Regardless, I love it a lot.
I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars – You can see what I’m currently watching by following me on Letterboxd @ roberthawk
