June 11 (Reuters) – WuXi AppTec said on Thursday it has filed a complaint at a U.S. district court against the Department of Defense for including the company in a list linked to the Chinese military.
The drug developer is part of a list of Chinese companies that includes Alibaba, internet search provider Baidu, and automakers BYD and NIO, which the United States believes are aiding Beijing’s military.
The list released on Monday includes a broad swathe of China’s top technology firms key to advancing Beijing’s military and industrial prowess, reflecting Washington’s security concerns amid intense geopolitical competition between the countries.
The announcement comes on the heels of WuXi saying on Tuesday that it would take immediate actions to challenge and correct the “erroneous designation”.
WuXi, in an exchange filing on Thursday, said it was seeking to declare its designation by the Pentagon as a “Chinese military company” as null and remove the firm from the list.
A spokesperson for the Pentagon said the Department does not comment on ongoing or potential litigation.
