PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) –Former Governor Kristi Noem and her favorite horse – Iceman – are now part of the Trail of Governors in Pierre.
A bronze statue was unveiled Friday on the south side of Hilger’s Gulch near the State Capitol building.
Noem said she appreciated the inclusion of Iceman in the statue.
“You take a horse and put him in a buffalo roundup when they haven’t experienced it before and it can get pretty dangerous, and he was just a rock star. He’s still with me. He’s very, very special and the fact that you allowed us to have Iceman in the portrait and the statue is very special to me and my family.”
The sculpture was created by artist John Lopez. It is the fourth sculpture he has done for the Trail of Governors.
