SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — As the United States continues to celebrate its historic 250th anniversary, the America 250 South Dakota Commission is proud to announce that America250’s nationwide mobile storytelling tour, Our American Story, is seeking South Dakota stories to tell. The tour will stop in Sioux Falls at the Cracker Barrell restaurant on September 18th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and the Falls Park Farmers Market on September 19th from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Launched nationally on the National Mall, Our American Story is an unprecedented oral and visual history initiative designed to create the largest collection of personal American narratives in U.S. history. Supported by founding partner Walmart, with transportation provided by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, the cross-country tour invites people from every background to share their lived experiences, family histories, and perspectives on American life.
The Commission encourages South Dakotans to consider who they believe can best share South Dakota’s perspective. Nominations can be made by visiting https://america250.org/nominate/ .
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for local residents to help build a permanent legacy,” said America 250 SD Commission Chair Dr. Ben Jones. “Every community has a unique voice that shapes the fabric of our nation. Therefore, we invite everyone to consider who they might nominate to share their story.”
Selected recordings from the tour are preserved at the Library of Congress and shared across digital and broadcast media platforms to highlight themes of identity, service, community, and personal legacy
