On the night of January 8th my wife and I watched the BRILLIANT film Magnolia from the mind of Paul Thomas Anderson. A 3-hour feature with such an ensemble cast with 9 main characters in total! We’re talking Tom Cruise, Melinda Dillon, John C. Reilly, Jason Robards, Julianne Moore, Alfred Molina, Luis Guzmán, William H. Macy, Ricky Jay, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Philip Baker Hall. Magnolia follows these 9 main characters as their lives are intertwined with each others. It’s exceptionally well done. The transitions are smooth, make sense, and are aestheticly pleasing. And the payoff at the end makes you question reality. People have written college thesis papers about this movie, analyzed, and broken down aspects of the movie into deeper meaning and translations. It’s extremely well done, you’re watching a piece of true cinematic art. I got to show my wife Dakota this movie for her first time and she said, “this movie is a beautiful work of art. I’d recommend it to people if you’re willing to sit through a 3 hour film. It’s worth it. The story is complex but it fits together like a nice puzzle that’s super satisfying to everyone.”
I give Magnolia a 5/5 star rating. Everyone should watch this at least once in their lifetime.
