PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden is making changes to the state’s parole system following Monday’s shooting of a Sioux Falls Police officer by a parolee. He says the changes will make getting parole offenders off the streets easier and faster. Part of the plan is to create an enhanced compliance unit with five specialized parole agents to enforce more intense supervision for higher risk parolees. Punishment for repeat offenders would also increase under the plan.
