CANTON, SD (KELO.com) — Growth in the fastest growing county in South Dakota is causing a shift in staffing for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. County Commissioners approved a proposal this week to create a Chief Deputy position to help manage current staffing. Sheriff Steve Swenson says the position replaces a Captain’s position in the jail division, which has been left open this year. The Sheriff says, “There just wasn’t enough administrative duties for a captain in the jail division alone, but now that the dispatch has grown and we’ve developed these contracts with municipalities it’s become a lot more to manage.” Sheriff Swenson told commissioners the move wouldn’t increase his budget. The move was adopted unanimously.
